Dennis loves plug-ins so much he’s had two of them! Find out why PHEVs were the right choice for him:

Electric Vehicle Testimonial

I leased a 2016 Ford Fusion Energi in September 2015. I've only had to fill it up 6 times in the last year. With charge stations near my home and work, I've attained an eMPG of 173.12. I rarely have to use the charge at my home. My gas/electric cost to drive the car is probably less than a penny per mile.

Ford has come a long way in the comfort, stability, and safety of their vehicles. I was hit broadside on the passenger side of the car and walked away with no bumps or bruises. The car was hit by an SUV doing 80 mph but held together so well, it was repaired and looks like new. The car is comfortable and has technology that surprises me constantly. I recently found on my navigation pane a small white box that shows me the speed limit of the street I'm driving on. It's the little things that go a long way. They have an app for your cell phone to set charge times as well as track your performance and more. I like to see what my contribution to ecology is having saved 165 gallons in gas and over 16,000 pounds in carbon dioxide pollution for the 1 year I've been driving.

The lease on the Ford finished recently and I went with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV due to the extra cargo room and the 2 types of charger plug ins.

Erica’s family in San Diego, CA loves their Kia Soul EV. Read her story to find out why:

Erica Electric Vehicle Testimoinal - Kia Soul EV

By the time I get to my desk each morning, I’ve already chauffeured two carpools full of kids to two different schools. And, as any parent can imagine, that is on the start of my daily driving detail. Even with gas prices down, my monthly gas budget was hitting $250 and I live less than 10 miles from work.

Enter my new all electric Kia Soul. With my $7,500 incentive from the federal government and $2,500 CVRP rebate, I was able to lease the perfect car for my family for $206 a month.

The financial benefits were what persuaded me to give this car a shot, but I have been pleasantly surprised with other bonuses that come with an EV. Our car has become a source of pride for our family. It feels good to break our dependency on gas. Plus, the kids love this car. It definitely has the “cool” factor.

I can’t believe it took me so long to make the switch. Going back to a gas-powered vehicle is not even an option. Want my advice? Run the numbers for your family and do it today. The results just might surprise you.

Andrew in San Diego, CA loves his EV so much he convinced his wife to purchase one, too! Here’s their story:

Andrew's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Tesla Model S

We were happy to get the rebate from CVRP. Using the Tesla Model S as my normal commuting car has been exciting, and fun way to get around town. I like knowing the car has a full tank every morning and ready for my day’s commute. I enjoy the option of using the HOV lane when traffic is heavy, there have been numerous instances where I saved an hour drive time home by having the HOV access.

I didn’t buy the car anticipating I would be saving money. I realized that my fuel cost per month for the Tesla versus my standard vehicle (six cylinder motor using regular gasoline) is about 60% less! SDGE just distributed the climate credit for EV owners this year. We received $500.00 credit per EV! The money will cover our EV charging costs for both cars for the next 9 months.

My EV is great, I don’t see myself going back to a gas car after this. My wife purchased the Chevrolet Bolt in March. With two EVs in the household, we almost exclusively drive EV’s on a daily basis. I’m noticing more EV’s on the road, it’s a great to know more people are making the transition!

Vanessa’s Fiat 500e represents her values and her personality! Check out her EV driver story to see why:

Vanessa's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Fiat 500e

I love my Fiat 500e and drive it every day. It's especially fun to outgun all the other cars on freeway entrances and after a light changes. I charge it overnight at home and at remote locations when I need to charge before returning home. It's easy to plan trips and find charging stations using various apps. And, I don't need anything special to charge at home, just a plug in the wall. My TV uses more electricity than my Fiat and I haven't been to a gas station in so long, I don't remember how to pump gas.

This is the first car I have ever had that represents the person I want to be in the world. My car is cute, sexy, colorful, responsible, environmentally sustainable, fun, and low maintenance! In 10,000 miles the only repair I've had to do was fixing a flat tire.

Jerry leased the Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell. Find out why he loves his FCEV:

Jerry's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Toyota Mirai

My Mirai is working great for me. Finally, I have a car that can use carpool lane with a single occupant, with enough range to go around and fuel up just like pumping gas. Equally important, it is affordable after all the rebates and incentives.

The car drives extremely well, and it's fully loaded. The look is great. It's quiet, smooth, and you fill up once a week like a regular car. You will never go back to gasoline cars once you drive it. It works great for the commute. the low speed torque gives you great stop and go power like a V8. No engine vibration, no exhaust to smell and you get to use carpool lane. Can't ask for more. It's a 10 out of 10!!!

Ananth in San Francisco, CA loves his Nissan Leaf. Read his story to find out why:

Ananth's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Nissan Leaf

My experience with my Nissan leaf has been as expected, or I should even say exceeded my expectation. I love driving my car. It is almost one year old, and I have not had any technical failures or drop in battery quality. I drive about 60 miles every day and charge using the fast charger. The 2-year free charge card provided by Nissan is very helpful in keeping the cost down for my commute.

Another advantage has been using the car pool lane. Living in the Bay Area, using the HOV lane saves me about 20-30 minutes on average every day. I strongly feel that electrics cars are here to stay, and I can see more and more people adopting this technology.

Find out why Cleve never wants to drive his old gas car now that he and his wife have a Chevrolet Bolt:

Cleve's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Chevy Bolt

We wanted to make the world a better place. But we didn't mind saving money on gasoline, especially since we power the car and our home with solar energy. The federal tax credit and the California rebate certainly helped in the overall vehicle economy equation.

I bought a Bolt figuring my wife could drive it the two days a week she needs a car. Those two days I drive the Subaru Outback I kept for towing and any extended trips. Let me tell you, I do not look forward to those two days.

The Bolt is so smooth, quiet and responsive. No fumes, no oil changes, no "warming up" the engine, and no expensive gasoline. We added to our solar array to cover two EVs, so driving is nearly guilt-free. And since we live in the sticks, I drive a lot, often more than 100 miles a day. With the Bolt, no range anxiety. I have yet to return home with less than 150 miles left. I have been amazed that the AC tames our 100+ degree days with just a couple of kilowatt hours.

Margaretta in Berkeley, CA purchased the Audi A3 e-tron. Here’s what she had to say:

Margaretta's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Audi A3 e-tron

I bought my plug-in hybrid so that I could drive using the power of the sun from my solar panels rather than non-renewable oil. I have used it daily since I bought it 11 months ago and I am still on my first tank of gas. I happily tell anyone ready to listen that this is the way to go to feel good about transportation when public transportation is not an option. As I am a teacher I have folded Sustainability into my courses and it makes me feel particularly good that I am practicing what I am preaching!

Melanie in Sausalito, CA leased a Fiat 500e. See what she has to say about her experience driving electric:

Melanie's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Fiat 500e

They had me at the tagline: Because ugly is a form of pollution, too.

I wasn’t shopping for an electric car at first – I was in the market for a good deal on a luxury car to replace my 2003 BMW and the electric Fiat just kept raising its hand as a good option.

The Fiat 500e drives great! It’s zippy and solid on the road. There’s an app for the car that lets you track your charge, start charging it when you want to, lock/open the doors, honk the horn, turn the lights on/off, etc. It’s all pretty wired. And the interior is beautifully styled and very comfortable. Lots of bells and whistles: heated seats, Italian leather, satellite radio. Small but sweet.

Meet Vernon and Sandy from Orange County. They love the Tesla Model S so much, they decided to get one for each of them.

Vernon's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Tesla Model S

I recently joined the Tesla Family, but I’ve been following the story since the beginning of the Roadster. I always wanted to buy a Tesla, but I just never saw myself as the owner of a car that expensive. I drove the same car for 29 years, an Acura Integra. It now has 223,000 miles on it. It’s a fine car, but after 29 years, I didn’t feel bad about upgrading.

Before I had a chance to upgrade my car, Musk’s announcement about the Model 3 came out. Finally, a car I could see myself in! The change in the way I thought about Tesla happened on the morning of March 31st-- I was standing in line with 300 other people, waiting to place a $1000 deposit for a Model 3, at the Buena Park Service Center and Showroom. About halfway through the wait, a semi from Fremont pulled up and parked on the median strip in front of the showroom. It had six new Model Ss on it. I stared at that truck, and said to myself “I could buy one of those right now!” Not because I wanted a luxury sports sedan, but because I wanted to be part of Elon Musk’s mission. And I wanted to do it now.

I’d bought our first Tesla a few weeks ago, a silver Model S 90D with light gray seats. I liked the red with black seats more, but we have some really hot weather here, so I went with what I thought were “practical” choices. Then just for fun, I configured the one in red too. Turns out it was the same design my wife wanted. My wife Sandy has been by my side for 20 years, it was time to do something very special for her. I wanted to give her a very special present. I’m not big on gifts, like she is, but this time I knew I had a good gift in mind. After a few days of staring at a Model S on the Customization page, I decided to go ahead and buy it, and give it to my wife! This was something I knew we would treasure for a long time. The Model S was a wonderful present and our experience will be a memory of a lifetime!

Sam in Los Angeles, CA, leased a Kia Soul EV. Here is what he had to say:

Sam's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Kia Soul EV

This is my second all electric car and the second rebate check I’ve received for driving a zero-emission vehicle. Calculating in the rebate, the lease payments (including taxes and license fees) come to $155 monthly with zero down payment. Now, to top it off, no gas or any maintenance expenses whatsoever. The range of the Kia Soul is 100 to 120 miles with a fully charged battery, depending on driving conditions. Does not get any better than that.

Connie in San Francisco, CA, bought a Ford Focus Electric. Here is what she had to say:

Connie's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Ford Focus Electric

I was the first person to own a Ford Focus electric car in the San Francisco Bay Area. I didn’t know what to expect, but I liked the thought of not going to a gas station on my commute to and from San Mateo. Although I am now retired from that job, I continue to enjoy the practicality of running errands and the parking privileges of an electric car. It has been one of the best major purchases I have ever made.

Paul in Santa Barbara, CA, purchased a Nissan Leaf. Here is what he had to say:

Paul Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Nissan Leaf

My Nissan Leaf was the first one delivered in Santa Barbara in May of 2011. It has been trouble free and enjoyable ever since. Both my wife and I drive it whenever we can, and keep our other gas powered car for long trips.

I then had the Honda Insight Hybrid for nine years. It was very effective, getting around 40 MPG, which was quite good in those days. As soon as the Leaf was announced, I put my name in. Very pleased to have read that Nissan has sold 200,000 of the Leaf model. Excellent product at an affordable price.

I am a big supporter of this movement.

Charles in Oceanside, CA, purchased the Hyundai Sonata Plug-in. Here is what he had to say:

Charles Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Hyundai Sonata Plug-in

I was somewhat hesitant to buy my Sonata plug-in, but I’m so glad I did.

The all-electric drive mode is amazing-good torque and pick-up, smooth, whisper quiet. The overall feel is that of a top-grade luxury vehicle. Most of my daily usage falls within the 27–30 miles all-electric range. For longer trips, the car automatically switches to hybrid mode when the “all-electric” battery allotment has been reached, which still gives me great overall mileage.

Believe it or not, I’ve averaged well over 100 miles per gallon since I purchased the car in January 2016. I bought $10 worth of gas two months ago and since then have used less than two gallons.

It’s such a treat to use the diamond lane too!

Making things even better, I signed up for my utility company’s special program, “Time of Usage,” reserved for people with plug-in vehicles. That program gives subscribers a low, low electric rate from midnight to 6am, and I have set my car to charge during that time frame using just a normal electric outlet in the garage. Because of the Time of Usage program, my overall electric charges are only slightly more now than they were before I started charging.

Justin in Hayward, CA, leased a Mercedes B250e. Here is what he had to say:

Justin's Electric Vehicle Testimonial - Mercedes B250e

What do I love about driving an EV? I love the absence of jerking through gears. I love the money you get back with the CVRP rebate. I love not having to pay or wait in line for gas. I love that my car’s maintenance only consists of tires, brakes, filters and other electronic diagnostics. I love that the car has so much torque; I can dust most cars when the light turns green, but what I love most is that I made a difference to keep the world green!
