I was somewhat hesitant to buy my Sonata plug-in, but I’m so glad I did.

The all-electric drive mode is amazing-good torque and pick-up, smooth, whisper quiet. The overall feel is that of a top-grade luxury vehicle. Most of my daily usage falls within the 27–30 miles all-electric range. For longer trips, the car automatically switches to hybrid mode when the “all-electric” battery allotment has been reached, which still gives me great overall mileage.

Believe it or not, I’ve averaged well over 100 miles per gallon since I purchased the car in January 2016. I bought $10 worth of gas two months ago and since then have used less than two gallons.

It’s such a treat to use the diamond lane too!

Making things even better, I signed up for my utility company’s special program, “Time of Usage,” reserved for people with plug-in vehicles. That program gives subscribers a low, low electric rate from midnight to 6am, and I have set my car to charge during that time frame using just a normal electric outlet in the garage. Because of the Time of Usage program, my overall electric charges are only slightly more now than they were before I started charging.
