Here’s a brief overview of the different types of available EVs

Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Combines an internal combustion engine with batteries, regenerative braking and an electric motor. These vehicles rely on gasoline or alternative fuel for power and are not plugged in to charge. Batteries are charged by the engine and when braking.

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle

Uses batteries to power an electric motor, plugs into the electric grid to charge and uses gasoline or alternative fuel to power an internal combustion engine.

All-Battery Electric Vehicle

All-Battery Electric Vehicle

Powered by one or more electric motors. These vehicles receive electricity by plugging into the electrical grid and store power in batteries. They consume no gasoline and produce no tailpipe emissions.

Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicle

Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicle

Runs on hydrogen gas rather than gasoline and emits no tailpipe emissions. These vehicles use a fuel-cell stack and oxygen from the air to convert hydrogen gas, stored on board, into electricity, which powers the vehicle’s electric motor.
