We couldn't be happier with our Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The car is large and comfortable enough for all our needs. We have had no issues with it in the 25 months we have owned it. It has pretty much every gadget and feature you can think of. Many more than we will ever use.

The PHEV appealed to us because 95% of our trips are within the electric range (about 30 miles), and yet we don't need to suffer the range anxiety so common in pure electric cars. If we feel like driving 400 miles, we climb in the car and go. We have about 19,000 miles on the car and are averaging just over 122 miles per gallon. Also, it charges automatically overnight when electricity rates are lower, using a standard 110-volt outlet.

Because the PHEV is a plug-in, it is still eligible for single-person use in the carpool lane. While we don't use this much, it is nice to know it is available. A few years ago, it would have been vital for our daily commute.

The higher tax incentive for buying a plug-in versus a standard hybrid actually made the PHEV less expensive than a normal hybrid. It was just a win on every level. If we lost this car for any reason, I wouldn't hesitate an instant to buy another.
