The first electric vehicle I ever drove was in 1954, an electric train that my father built for the family in our yard in Marin county. The first electric car I rode in was in 1978 in the Barron Park area of Palo Alto, it was a VW bug conversion with lead/acid batteries and switches to turn on additional batteries to accelerate. The first electric vehicle I purchased was a 1992 Chevy S-10 Blazer conversion produced by US Electricar. After this I have always owned electric vehicles including a Solectria Force, Nissan Leaf, Think City and now the Chevy Bolt EV.

The feature I like best in the Bolt EV is the single pedal control which has the strongest regen of any vehicle I have ever driven, including the AC Propulsion T-Zero (had adjustable regen). In May of 2017 I took a 2,500-mile road trip across California, into Nevada and Arizona.

As you can imagine, I was devoted to electric vehicles from a very early age. I love not needing to get gasoline and refueling at home. I have a solar system feeding my car which has paid for itself, so I no longer pay for fuel. Maintenance expenses are non-existent and my only question for the future is what electric vehicle will be next. I will need to make my mind up about this in one more year and I am hoping I will be able to afford my selection since I am now on a fixed income. With local and state rebates, I might be able to continue to drive electric.
